The hexagonal crystal lattice is the basis for crystals like graphite (its (P) Primitive lattice). Graphite is used a lubricant, found in pencil "lead" and carbon fiber materials, and the source material for graphene, a "wonder material" made of a single layer of carbon atoms that is 200 times stronger than steel and highly conductive. The buckyball and other fullerenes are forms of graphene.
