Named after the 20th century visionary Buckminster Fuller, the buckyball is a spherical molecule made entirely of carbon atoms (geometrically equivalent to the truncated icosahedron). Reminiscent of Fuller's geodesic domes, buckyballs are used as nano-particles in medicine, energy, material and environmental sciences.
